Upon arrival at Tirana International Airport, a private transfer takes you to the historic hilltop town of Krujë. Krujë rises above the plains, offering a stunning introduction to Albania’s rich heritage and natural beauty. The town’s narrow cobblestone streets, ancient citadel, and artisan bazaars create an immersive historical atmosphere. Take a moment to breathe in the views over the Adriatic plains and the distant mountains that will form the backdrop of the expedition. This first evening allows for rest and orientation, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. Accommodation: Hotel, Krujë
Morning begins with the ascent of Sari Salltik, a limestone ridge directly overlooking Kruja. The trail winds through Mediterranean vegetation, rocky outcrops, and traditional shepherd paths. From the summit, sweeping vistas extend across central Albania, the Adriatic coastline, and the distant peaks of the northern Alps. The climb is moderate but rewarding, serving as both acclimatization and a gentle immersion into Albania’s alpine environment. After descending, we transfer north into the dramatic landscapes of the Albanian Alps, reaching the alpine village of Lepushë. Here, rustic guesthouses provide a warm welcome amid the wild mountain scenery. Crossing into Montenegro, we tackle our first major summit: Vajusha Peak. The hike begins in dense forest and gradually transitions to open limestone ridges, exposing hikers to panoramic views of the Accursed Mountains and deep alpine valleys below. Reaching the summit offers a spectacular sense of accomplishment and a true perspective of the rugged borderlands. The descent leads into the remote Grbaja Valley, where towering cliffs frame verdant pastures. This area remains largely untouched, creating a sense of wild isolation. A short transfer brings us to the mountain village of Vusanje, a peaceful heaven amid soaring peaks. Metrics: Distance: 12 km Elevation Gain/Loss: +900 m / –1,100 m Hiking Time: 6–8 hrs Difficulty: Challenging Accommodation: Guesthouse, Vusanje
We begin the day with a short scenic transfer to the village of Zastan, a quiet mountain hamlet serving as the gateway to this alpine adventure. From here, the trail gradually ascends into the high alpine environment, opening onto the turquoise Jezerca Lakes, set beneath the jagged walls of Maja Jezercë. The serene lakes, framed by dramatic limestone cliffs, offer a perfect spot for rest and photography. After enjoying the lakes, the hike continues to Rosi Peak, a commanding vantage point offering sweeping views across the surrounding highlands. From this summit, hikers can admire the vast alpine scenery stretching toward Valbonë and beyond. The day concludes with a careful descent into the Valbona Valley, a valley renowned for its dramatic peaks, lush meadows, and unspoiled wilderness. The day begins with a short scenic transfer from Valbona to the trailhead in Rrogam, positioning us for a ridge hike away from the village. From Rrogam, we ascend steadily through open alpine forest and rocky slopes toward Zhaborra Pass, where the surrounding peaks reveal the dramatic scale of the Albanian Alps. Continuing to Boshit Peak, hikers are rewarded with one of the region’s most remarkable viewpoints. From the summit, three valleys unfold below: Valbona, Theth, and Curraj i Epërm, offering an unparalleled perspective of the Accursed Mountains’ vastness and complexity. After taking in the panorama, we descend back toward Rrogam, where a transfer returns the group to Valbona for a well-earned evening of rest in the hotel. Optional: For those feeling fatigued or preferring a gentler day, a rest day in Valbona can be taken instead of the Rrogam hike, allowing time to relax, explore the village, or enjoy the valley scenery at leisure.
